New Imaging Technology “Hands On” at the 6Sight Future of Imaging Conference

New Tech Fair and 6Sight Theater Featured at Evening Reception in
Monterey Bay Aquarium

Exhibitors Will Demonstrate New Technologies That Will Empower the Next Generation of Digital Cameras and Camera Phones

SAN MATEO, Calif. – October 5, 2006 – Sales of image capture devices including digital cameras and camera phones are undergoing explosive growth, with sales projected to rise from 85 Million units in 2000 to 1 Billion units in 2008. This phenomenon is driving massive R&D investment, and many of the latest and most promising innovations in imaging software and hardware from throughout the industry and around the world will be demonstrated live at the 6Sight™ New Tech Fair during the evening reception of the 6Sight conference at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey (CA) the evening of October 24, 2006. Information about the two day imaging technology conference can be found at: http://www.6sight.com.

Attendees will have opportunities to examine the new imaging technologies and to interact with their developers in a relaxed environment, while enjoying the world-famous displays of the Aquarium, a program of entertainment in the movie theater featuring outstanding examples of user-generated visual content, and an array of gourmet food and refreshments.

Several of the innovations on display will demonstrate the ongoing revolution in lens design and capabilities. Over the past ten years, photographic cameras have almost completely transitioned from silver halide film to electronic sensors. But the other key component — the lens — has remained largely unchanged... Until now. The cell-phone industry, with its huge demand for embedded cameras, is driving a broad set of new requirements for miniaturized, rugged, low-cost, low-power, high-performance lenses. As they come to market, the superior value proposition of those lenses — liquid lenses, specialized software-enhanced optics and more — will threaten to displace traditional optics in cameras of all types.

  • Artificial Muscle of Menlo Park, CA (www.artificialmuscle.com) will present their new revolutionary DLP-95 auto-focus lens positioner. Based on their patented ElectroActive Polymer Artificial Muscle (EPAM™), AMI is introducing a reliable, battery-friendly, lightweight alternative to conventional electromagnetic actuators such as voice coils or steppers.
  • DxO of Paris, France (www.dxo.com) will present “Silicon Powered Optics” an advanced IP solution based on a revolutionary co-design of the optics and the ISP chain.
  • InvenSense of Santa Clara, CA (www.invensense.com) will present the first single-chip, dual-axis gyroscope for cameraphone image stabilization, designed and priced for volume manufacture
Johnson Electric of Hong Kong (www.johnsonelectric.com) will show Nanomotion's NanoLens and NanoZoom technologies. NanoLens is the fastest and most accurate Autofocus camera module while NanoZoom is the only zoom designed for small handsets, featuring x3 zoom in an extremely compact space with high design flexibility.
  • New Scale Technologies of Victor, NY (www.newscaletech.com) will present the world’s smallest linear motor, piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motor, which adds both autofocus and optical zoom to phone cameras and offers 10x better force and resolution than micro-motors twice its size.
  • Varioptic of Lyon France (www.varioptic.com) will demonstrate the world's smallest commercial liquid lens camera module - 2mp autofocus

Numerous other innovative technologies will be displayed, including:

  • Avago of San Jose, CA (www.avagotech.com) will show PhotoPrint™ (enhanced camera phone pictures for printing), a fully on-chip autofocus solution and ultra small 1.3MP and 2MP phone cameras.
  • CAP-XX of Sydney, Australia (www.cap-xx.com) supercapacitors provide enough LED flash power for 2+-megapixel camera phones to take high-resolution pictures in low light. CAP-XX will demonstrate its LED BriteFlash vs a xenon flash solution.
  • Corel of Ottawa, Canada (www.Corel.com) will introduce Corel Snapfire and Corel Snapfire Plus, the smart alternatives to traditional digital camera software.
  • Exclaim of Trenton, NJ (www.pictavision.com, www.exclaim.com) will present Pictavision, a portfolio of mobile phone photo and video uploading, viewing, camera control, messaging, printing and gaming apps available on over 150 handset models.
  • Hewlett-Packard of Palo Alto, CA (www.HP.com) will present new and more efficient photo printing from camera-phones to an HP PhotoSmart Printer.
  • LifeSize™ of Austin, TX (www.lifesize.com) will demonstrate high definition video communications products that combine exceptional quality, user simplicity and administrator manageability to make human interaction a more productive, true-to-life experience.
  • Mobile Imaging and Printing Consortium (MIPC) of Escondido, CA (www.mobileprinting.org/home) will be on hand to discuss its role in enabling interoperability and the resultant ecosystem between mobile phone cameras and printers. See for yourself how easy it is print photos with products from participating handset and printer companies.
  • Nethra Imaging of Cupertino, CA (www.nethra.us.com) will present a smart phone reference platform with an autofocus 3-megapixel camera.
  • PerkinElmer of Wellesley, MA (www.perkinelmer.com) will debut a new Xenon Flash Module, which delivers superb DSC photographic quality to the camera phone.
  • SimpleStar of San Francisco, CA (www.simplestar.com) will present PhotoShowTV, the ultimate PhotoShow viewing experience and PhotoShow.com, the fastest, easiest way to make PhotoShows online – no software to install – from any PC or Macintosh.
  • ShoZu of London, England (www.shozu.com/portal) will present their patented mobile services including: ‘Share-It’ and ‘ZuCasts’ where users can, in one-click, up load their photo and video images to the web and subscribe to web content downloaded to their mobile phone.
  • Webshots of San Francisco, CA (www.webshots.com) will debut its site redesign and new features, including video integration.

WOW, what a great conference!! Excellent content, excellent speakers, excellent facilities and excellent food. And did I mention I made some super contacts too.

Brent Bowyer, President, Independent Photo Imagers

You have managed to assemble a very high calibre set of attendees and we had ample time to network, which was fantastic.

Simon East, CEO, ShoZu

I came here to learn about the market and to evaluate the opportunity for Bellamax. The Summit exceeded my expectations.

Val Carpenter, CMO, Bellamax

We found the show to be informative and insightful in terms of content and extremely valuable in terms of connections and networking opportunities. Our only regret was that we were not able to attend the sessions on Friday and to continue meeting with other attendees.

Kris Ramanathan, Co-CEO, netomat, Inc.

Congrats to you and your team for providing a really awesome event. Your planning, gracious accommodations and flawless execution was appreciated! In addition we achieved all the goals (and then some) that we set out from Sprint's perspective. Thank you for making the venue intimate and allow us real time to discuss and network as we needed.
